This book was recommended by my art tutor when we started drawing and painting buildings. As well as being a celebration of England’s local domestic architectural heritage and of interest to historians, it is a really useful art resource, containing 150+ superb line drawings of houses and architectural detail. First published in 1912, some of the 12 colour plates by other artists now look rather “chocolate boxy”, but those by Sydney Jones are sharp and distinctive. Though secondhand, the copy I bought is in excellent condition and sitting on my coffee table recently it has been read by a number of visitors who found it fascinating.
